What are dashboard display settings?

A dashboard's display settings control what your screens show from its full-page screenshot. You can crop the dashboard to the part you want, let a tall page scroll down and back up and choose the background around it.

You'll find them in the dashboard editor, in the Display section of the Settings tab. Next to the settings, the screenshot has two modes, Preview to show the result and Crop to draw the area to show. The editor opens in Preview.

Before you begin

  • The dashboard needs a full-page screenshot, so it must have run successfully at least once. Until then, the editor shows Available when the dashboard next runs. in place of the screenshot, and Scroll and Background can't be changed.

  • Crop, Scroll and Background for on-premise dashboards need Dashboards 2.0. Without it, the editor shows On-premise dashboards need Dashboards 2.0 for crop, scroll and background.

Cropping a dashboard

1. In Dashboards, select the dashboard and click Edit in the side panel. The editor opens on the Settings tab, with the screenshot in Preview.

2. Click Crop in the toolbar next to the screenshot.

3. Drag on the screenshot to draw the area you want to show. Use Zoom in and Zoom out (1× to 6×) for finer control, or Fit to see the whole screenshot again.

4. Click Preview to check the result.

5. Click Save.

To remove the crop, click Reset crop. It's only available once a crop has been drawn.

If the screenshot width changes

A crop belongs to the screenshot width it was drawn at. If that width changes, the crop isn't shown and the editor says This crop was drawn at another width and won't be shown. Draw it again. Draw the crop again and save.

Making a dashboard scroll

Turn on Scroll to move down the dashboard and back up within the item's duration. It's off by default. Use it when the part you want to show is taller than the screen.

With Scroll on, the dashboard fills the width of the screen, then moves down and back up, pausing for a second at the top and bottom. The scroll speed is fitted to the item's duration, so a longer duration in the playlist slows it down, though never below a set minimum speed. There's no separate speed setting.

Choosing a background

Background sets what shows around the dashboard on screen. Choose one of:

  • Black: the default.

  • Colour: pick a color with the Background colour picker. It starts as white.

  • Blurred dashboard: a blurred copy of the dashboard.

Dashboards in Design Studio

When you add a dashboard to a design, it brings a copy of the crop and Scroll setting from its Display settings. The background isn't copied.

In a design, select the dashboard and use these tools:

  • Crop in the toolbar crops the element's frame, the same way as for images and videos. It has no zoom or Reset crop controls.

  • Scroll dashboard in Animation makes the dashboard scroll down and back up within the element's duration. If the switch is unavailable, you'll see Turn on crop & scroll for this dashboard first.

For everything else you can do in a design, see Design Studio Overview.

Other dashboard settings

The Display section also has Refresh interval, Declutter and Pause duration (seconds). For those, and for connecting and publishing dashboards, see Dashboards Overview.
