Fugo is constantly adding new features to make us your preferred digital signage platform. As Fugo evolves and improves, there are some devices and operating systems that fall behind. When this happens, we no longer support or recommend such devices. The main reason is performance and compatibility issues that surface from aging hardware and software that will negatively impact your Fugo experience.

Another factor is that some operating systems restrict access to capabilities that are required for Fugo to function properly. For all of these reasons, we maintain a list of not supported/ not recommended devices and operating systems to help guide customers away from hardware that will not deliver an ideal user experience.

This article outlines the equipment and platforms that are not currently supported or recommended to work with Fugo.

No longer supported or recommended devices

Not Supported: Amazon's first generation Fire TV Stick (2014)

The first generation Fire TV Stick is no longer supported by Fugo. This model was released in 2014 and has been discontinued by Amazon. It can be identified by its small 3.3” size compared to newer models and has the model code W87CUN.

Not Recommended: later generation Amazon Fire TV Sticks

We no longer recommend Amazon Fire TV devices in general due to software limitations and system updates to these devices that often disrupt digital signage playback.

In addition, some newer Fire TV Sticks are not supported at all. Amazon has introduced a new operating system called Vega OS on select Fire TV models, which is not Android-based. Fugo does not support Fire TV devices that run Vega OS, including the Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025).

Amazon Fire TV Sticks are intended for low intensity video streaming for home users and are generally not suitable for digital signage systems that require 24/7 operation and reliability.

The Chromecast with Google TV or Raspberry Pi 5 are better alternatives that offer more reliable performance for digital signage.

Chromecast

Chromecast models 1, 2, 3, and Ultra are not officially supported or recommended by Fugo. In the past, Chromecast referred to devices that supported Google's casting technology.

Google sold devices by this name that enabled customers to cast content from other devices like phones and tablets on a TV screen. However, these older devices offer poor resolution for text, making it hard to read, and the overall processing power to display signage is not adequate to offer an optimum experience.

More recently, new Chromecast devices from Google utilize Android TV instead of just their legacy casting technology, essentially turning them into fully-fledged media players. We can recommend these newer models as they function similarly to other dedicated Android media boxes. The original Chromecast models (1-3 and Ultra) have power and performance limitations that make them unreliable for long-term digital signage use with Fugo.

Intel Compute Stick

While these devices do still work, we no longer recommend Intel Compute Sticks for use with Fugo. These devices have limited power/storage when used for digital signage, which could lead to issues over time.

Consider alternate Windows based devices if you are buying new, but if you already have one then you can still try out Fugo on your Intel Compute Stick.

ASUS Chromebit CS10

ASUS has discontinued software updates for the Chromebit CS10 as of November 2020. Without continued support from the manufacturer, we can no longer recommend this device for use with Fugo, but they do currently work.

If you currently own a Chromebit CS10 then you will still be able to run Fugo, but without being able to update the device you may find issues further on as Fugo continues to evolve.

Operating systems not supported by Fugo

Apple TV

While Apple TV can run digital signage applications, tvOS does not provide the same browser and web platform capabilities available on Android, ChromeOS, Windows, or Linux devices. Fugo's player relies on a broad set of web technologies and browser APIs to render websites, dashboards, widgets, apps, and other dynamic content consistently across supported platforms.

Some digital signage providers support Apple TV through custom native tvOS applications designed specifically for the platform. Fugo's player architecture is built around a web-based rendering environment, and tvOS does not currently provide the level of browser compatibility required to support the full Fugo experience.

For this reason, Apple TV is not currently a supported Fugo player platform. We may evaluate support in the future as the platform evolves.

Roku

Unlike platforms designed for apps and web content, Roku is primarily built for streaming media. Its software environment is much more limited than Android, ChromeOS, Windows, or Linux, making it a poor fit for the type of web-based content that Fugo displays.

While a small number of signage vendors offer Roku support through custom-built applications, most digital signage platforms do not support Roku because the platform was not designed for modern signage workloads.

For that reason, Roku devices and Roku TVs are not currently supported by Fugo.
