Understanding Chrome Enterprise device management
For Chrome devices, like Chromebits, Chromeboxes, Chromebases, and Chromebooks, using Fugo in kiosk mode is highly recommended. This ensures a single, secure app and automatic relaunch in case of issues.
Running Fugo in kiosk mode requires a Google licence on each device. There are two to choose from, and both are annual subscriptions:
ChromeOS Kiosk & Signage Upgrade - around $25 per device per year. This is the one most signage deployments need. It covers kiosk mode and the signage management features.
Chrome Enterprise Upgrade - around $50 per device per year. Adds the wider fleet management and policy controls, which is worth it if ChromeOS is already part of your IT estate.
⚠️ Budget for the licence as an ongoing cost, not a one-off. It renews every year for as long as the screen runs, so over a five-year deployment the Kiosk & Signage Upgrade adds roughly $125 per screen on top of the hardware. Some Chromebox models are sold as "Enterprise" editions with the upgrade already bundled, so check before buying a licence twice.
These licences provide access to Chrome device management features that require integration with Google Workspace. Setting up Google Workspace involves integrating your domain and creating an administrator account. You can choose Business editions for small teams or specific deployments for nonprofits or educational institutions.

⚠️ If you don't use kiosk mode, Fugo will run as a Chrome extension with performance limitations and no auto-start capability.
For this reason, we highly recommend a Chrome Enterprise Upgrade or Kiosk & Signage Upgrade to run Fugo optimally.
Minimum requirements
A ChromeOS Kiosk & Signage Upgrade or Chrome Enterprise Upgrade licence (see here)
A device with 1 year or more remaining until its Auto Update Expiration (AUE) date, and preferably 3 years or more. Google publishes the dates for every model here, and the models we recommend below have their dates listed so you don't have to look them up.
Dual-core processor or higher (preferably quad-core processor or higher)
2 GB of RAM or higher (preferably 4 GB of RAM or higher)
8 GB of storage or higher (preferably 32 or 64 GB of storage or higher)
☝️ Why AUE matters. When a Chrome device passes its Auto Update Expiration date it stops receiving ChromeOS updates, including security patches, and kiosk features can stop behaving predictably. Every model in our recommended list below has between five and nine years remaining, so a screen bought today will stay supported for the life of the installation.
Recommended, supported & unsupported devices
Chromeboxes
Chromeboxes are desktop replacement units that are built using ChromeOS. They are lightweight and generally lack some of the processing power found in a Windows computer, but there are a few models that we recommend that work well with Fugo.

Acer Chromebox Enterprise Mini CXM2 - updates until June 2035. Same hardware as the standard Mini CXM2, but the Enterprise edition already includes the management upgrade, so don't buy that licence separately
Acer Chromebox CXI6 - updates until June 2034
Acer Chromebox CXI5 - updates until June 2032. Sold in a wide range of configurations, from Celeron to i7, so check which one a given price refers to
ASUS Chromebox 5 - updates until June 2032 (listed by Google under the board name CN67)
AOpen Chromebox Commercial 3 - updates until June 2032
AOpen Chromebox Mini 2 - updates until June 2031
ASUS Fanless Chromebox CF40 - updates until June 2031. Fanless, which matters in enclosures, dusty retail environments, or anywhere that needs to stay silent
OPS-format Chromeboxes (AOpen Chromebox OPS, CTL Chromebox OPx1-3 and OPx1-7) also run Fugo. Note that OPS is a slot format: these only fit displays that have an OPS bay, so check your screen before ordering one.
