What is 2FA, and why does Fugo need a Secret Key for it?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) protects a login with something you know (your password) plus something you have - usually a rotating code from an authenticator app. It's common on the dashboards, reports, and internal tools that Fugo's TV Dashboards feature can display.

Fugo signs in to your dashboard automatically, on a repeating schedule, with no one at a browser to approve anything - so it can't tap "approve" on a push notification or read a text message the way you would. What it can do is generate the same kind of time-based code your authenticator app produces, but only if you give it the underlying Secret Key that code is generated from.

You'll enter that Secret Key once, in the Authentication Method section when you set up the dashboard, alongside your username and password - Fugo then generates a fresh code from it every time the dashboard refreshes.

See What is a Secret Key? for more on where that key comes from and how Fugo uses it.

An alternative to a Secret Key: passkey login

🆕 New: Fugo now also supports signing in with a passkey instead of your Google Account's password and Secret Key. You don't need an existing passkey to use it - Fugo creates and stores its own the moment you set one up when connecting the dashboard.

Whether it works depends on the service you're signing into: some let an admin restrict passkey registration to device-bound credentials only, which blocks Fugo from adding one, in which case stick with a Secret Key instead.

You'll find the option to add one from the dashboard's Home tab:

Adding a passkey doesn't remove your existing Secret Key setup - Fugo tries the passkey first on each refresh and falls back to the Secret Key if it can't use it. The feature just launched and is still being refined; see Dashboards Overview for the full walkthrough of adding a passkey to a dashboard.

Which setup guide do you need?

If your dashboard's user account uses 2FA, which guide to follow depends on where that 2FA lives:

Signing in with Google

If your dashboard uses Google as its identity provider, see How To Set Up 2FA With Google For TV Dashboards.

Signing in with Microsoft

If your dashboard uses Microsoft as its identity provider, see How To Set Up 2FA With Microsoft For TV Dashboards.

Signing in with Okta

If your organization uses Okta to manage sign-in, see How To Set Up Okta SSO For Fugo TV Dashboards.

Signing in with another identity provider

Fugo can automate almost any login page through the Custom URL setup flow, so an identity provider that isn't Google, Microsoft, or Okta will usually still work.

If your dashboard doesn't use 2FA at all, you don't need any of these guides - just enter the account's username and password when you set up the dashboard.
