What is the Fugo Digital Signage Player extension?
The Fugo Digital Signage Player is a free extension, published by Fugo and available from the Chrome Web Store, that launches the same Fugo Player used across every Fugo-supported platform directly inside your browser.
Install it, click its icon, and your device becomes a working Fugo screen - no separate media player or signage hardware required.
Throughout the rest of this guide, we'll just call it "the extension" for short. You'll also see it referred to as Chrome Extension in a couple of places inside Fugo CMS itself - more on that in Where you'll see it in Fugo CMS below.
It's a popular way to try Fugo out during a trial, or to run signage on a laptop, desktop, or mini PC you already have on hand.
Why use the extension instead of just the Web Player URL?
Fugo also offers a plain Web Player URL that works in any browser with no install step at all. The extension runs that exact same player under the hood, but unlocks a couple of extension-only capabilities worth knowing about:
More reliable remote screenshots
Fugo periodically captures a screenshot of each screen so you can check what's actually playing from the Screens page and your screen's settings:
When the player is running through the extension, it captures that screenshot through Chrome's own extension messaging - a more reliable path than the in-page rendering method the player has to fall back on when it's running as a plain browser tab with no extension installed.
Startup behavior tuned for signage use
The Fugo Player app can tell when it's running through the extension versus a plain browser tab, and adjusts its startup behavior accordingly - since the extension is meant to behave like a persistent, always-on player rather than something you open once and check on manually.
Before you begin
What you'll need:
Google Chrome installed on the device you'll use as a screen. Chrome is the browser Fugo Player is officially built and tested against. Other Chromium-based browsers will very likely work too, since they share the same underlying engine, but Chrome is the safest choice.
The ability to install browser extensions on that device. Some managed work computers restrict this. Check with your IT team if the install option is greyed out.
A Fugo account, or a free trial, to pair the screen to.
💡 Good to know: Keep Chrome itself up to date. The Fugo Player app automatically detects an outdated browser and switches into a more conservative mode to stay stable (more frequent reloads, simplified video handling), so an up-to-date Chrome gives you the smoothest experience.
Install the extension
1. Open the Fugo Digital Signage Player listing in the Chrome Web Store. You can confirm you're on the official listing by checking that it's published by Fugo Ltd.
2. Click Add to Chrome in the top-right corner, and confirm if prompted.
3. Once added, the extension will launch in a separate browser window and display a 4-digit pairing PIN. We'll cover what to do with that PIN in the next section.
The extension will also appear in your extensions list in your Chrome toolbar. You can pin the extension to your toolbar for quick access:
Clicking on the Fugo icon will open the Fugo player app in its own window.
Pair your screen to Fugo CMS
1. Log in, or start a free trial, at fugo.ai/app.
2. Go to the Screens page and click Add screen.
3. Choose Physical screen - you're pairing a real, active browser window using a code it's currently displaying, not creating a shareable link (that's the separate Virtual Screen feature).
4. Enter the pairing PIN shown in the player window.
5. Give your screen a name and click Continue.
6. Add an address (if you want to be able to view your screens in Fugo's map view) and set the orientation if it's different from the standard landscape setting.
7. Assign any labels or custom screen properties to your screen. Click Save details when you're done.
Your screen is now paired to Fugo and will be listed on your Screens page:
Like any other Fugo screen, a screen paired through the extension counts against your license (Test screens are the only exception).
Manage content and screens
From here, you can start assigning and managing content for your screen the same way you would for any other Fugo screen. A few places to go next:
Playlists Overview - build a playlist and schedule what plays and when.
Design Studio Overview - design custom layouts, templates, and touch-enabled content for your screen.
Screens Overview - rename, group, or configure settings for this and other screens.

Where you'll see it in Fugo CMS
The Screens page
You can group or filter screens by Player type. A screen paired through the extension is labeled Chrome Extension with its own icon - distinct from the generic Fugo label used for a screen paired by loading the plain Web Player URL instead. This makes it easy to tell your browser-based screens apart if you're running a mix of screen types.
Click the screen's card to open its settings panel, where you can rename it, update its location or labels, and more:

The Playlist builder
Your screen also shows up in the screen picker when you're building a playlist - the step where you choose which screens (or screen properties) to publish content to.

Re-pair, reset, or remove the extension
Re-pair the extension player
If your screen goes offline and you need to reconnect it - for example, after reinstalling the extension or moving it to a different device - go to the Screens page, open the screen, and click the wrench icon (Repair screen):
Enter the fresh pairing PIN shown on the reconnected player, and Fugo will re-pair it while keeping the screen's existing settings, playlists, and history intact. This option is only available while the screen shows as offline.
Remove the extension player
To remove the screen from your account entirely, you can either select its checkbox from the Screens list and click Delete in the toolbar that appears:
Or open the screen and click the trash icon in its details panel:
Uninstall the extension
To uninstall the extension itself from Chrome, go to chrome://extensions, find Fugo Digital Signage Player, and click Remove.
