What is the YouTube Video (Download) app?
The YouTube Video (Download) app adds a single YouTube video to a playlist. You paste the video's link, and Fugo downloads a copy so your screens play it like any other video, without streaming from YouTube while it plays.
In the playlist, the item shows the video's poster when Fugo can get one, otherwise the YouTube app icon. It's named YouTube followed by the video's title, so you can tell YouTube items apart.
The Apps tab lists two YouTube apps. YouTube Video (Download) (Premium) downloads the video, while the older YouTube App (Free) streams from YouTube instead. This guide covers YouTube Video (Download) only.
Before you begin
You need a link to one public YouTube video, 5 minutes or shorter. Private and removed videos can't be added.
Live streams and upcoming premieres can't be added, because there's no finished video to download.
The app adds videos to playlists only. It isn't available in the Design Studio.
Adding a YouTube video to a playlist
You can start from the playlist builder or from the Apps page. Both routes open the same app settings.
From the playlist builder
1. Open a playlist, click Edit and go to Content.
2. Open the Apps tab and choose YouTube Video (Download).
3. Paste the video link. Continue with Configuring the app.
From the Apps page
1. In the left-hand navigation, open Apps and choose YouTube Video (Download).
2. Choose Add to playlist or Publish to screen.
3. Paste the video link. Continue with Configuring the app.
Configuring the app
1. Paste the link into YouTube video link. The field's hint reads Paste a link to one video, 5 minutes or shorter.
2. Turn on Mute this video if the video should play without sound.
3. Click Add video. Fugo checks the link, then starts downloading the video.
Links you can paste
Fugo accepts the common YouTube link formats:
Share links, such as
youtu.be/…Watch links, such as
youtube.com/watch?v=…, including the mobile (m.) andmusic.sitesShorts, embed and live links (
/shorts/…,/embed/…,/live/…)
Fugo keeps only the video itself. A start time in the link is ignored, and the video plays from the beginning. If a watch link also names a playlist, Fugo adds just that video.
Playlist links, channel pages and search pages aren't accepted. Add each video as its own item.
Sound
Mute this video plays the video without sound on every screen. When it's off, sound follows the screen's own setting.
Changing the video
Open the item's settings to see the current video: its title, its length (for example Length 0:19) and Ready to play once it has downloaded. Click Use a different video to paste a new link, change Mute this video if needed, then click Save.
Duration
A YouTube item has no duration setting. The screen plays the video to the end, then moves to the next item.
The only setting in the item's gear menu is Mute this video. YouTube items have no fit or rotation settings. Those apply to items such as images; see Playlists Overview.
How YouTube items look in your playlist
Once the link is resolved, the item shows the video's poster when Fugo can get one, otherwise the YouTube app icon. The poster shows even while the download is still running. On the Playlists page, the playlist card shows the poster too, with the app icon on top.
The item is named YouTube followed by the video title, for example YouTube Me at the zoo, and shows the video's length. If there's no title yet, the item shows the app name instead.
Publishing the playlist
Finish the playlist as usual: choose screens, set a schedule, then preview and publish. The CMS preview is always muted. See Playlists Overview for each step.
Troubleshooting
The link isn't accepted
Check that it links to a single video, not a playlist, channel or search page. Copy the link again from the video's Share option if you're unsure.
The video is unavailable
The video is private or has been removed. Ask the owner to make it public, or choose another video.
The video can't be downloaded
Live streams and upcoming premieres can't be added. Try again once the video has finished and is available to watch.
The video is too long
Videos must be 5 minutes or shorter. Use a shorter video, or download and upload your own copy to Media if you have the rights to it.
Fugo asks you to try again later
Fugo couldn't finish checking this video. Wait a few minutes, then paste the link again.
